Physical therapy incorporates a variety of techniques including electric muscle stimulation designed to reduce pain, muscle spasms and inflammation, therapeutic ultrasound which utilizes sound waves to deeply penetrate into the tissues of the body to facilitate the healing process and reduce pain and inflammation as a result of a chronic or acute (accident type of injury) condition.
Exercises are also very important in regards to physical therapy to strengthen and stretch areas of involvement and also to improve posture or structural deviations of the spine such as a scoliosis (a lateral curvature of the spine) which can lead to pain, early degeneration of the spine, lack of mobility and in the worst case scenario a surgical procedure.
